

James Edward Scott, Sr. also known as “Scottie”, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle has passed away at the age of 91 years young. He was born in Harlem, New York on March 21st, 1932, to the late Jerome and Marie Scott. He was the oldest of seven children. James was raised in Harlem where he graduated from Central High School of Needle Trades in New York City.
James was the social butterfly in his Harlem neighborhood where he met and married Barbara Elizabeth Graham in 1951. This union produced three children - Patricia, Jaye and James, Jr. They divorced in 1966. He then moved to Brooklyn and married Elizabeth Helena Carter in 1967 and had one daughter, Lesle. They divorced in 1974 and he subsequently moved to the Bronx.
James supported his family and country by his service to the United States Air Force and in 1960, he was honorably discharged. He then joined the New York City Transit Police Department, where he served the law enforcement community for 23 years. He then retired and moved to Arizona in 1980. During this time, he met the love of his life, Mahaley Edwina Jones, also known as Tiger. They remained together until her death in 2015.
James remained in Arizona for more than 40 years until he quietly departed on April 17th, 2023.
James’ passion for health and wellness was an integral part of his life. It led him to compete professionally in weightlifting. Throughout his life and as recently as 6 months ago, he regularly participated in bowling tournaments. His bowling buddies were a source of love and support as he enjoyed his favorite pastime. He loved living an active lifestyle. James loved his motorcycle.

Nephews: Pastor Michael Scott, Kevin Scott, Dana Scott, Lawrence Scott, William Scott, Sean Scott, Curtis Scott, Darryl Scott, Richard Scott, Adrian Greene
Nieces: Yolanda Stewart, Ylatasha Scott, Keisha Singletary, Denise Hassell-Wrighton; and a host of family and friends who will mourn him, but cherish many loving memories.
A memorial service for James will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care, 400 South Power Road, Mesa, AZ 85206, followed by a reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
