James Wesson was born on February 7, 1943 to LD and Alta Wesson in Lockesburg Arkansas and was raised De Queen Arkansas. James was the fourth oldest out of seven children. He attended Sevier High School where he graduated Valedictorian in 1961. James was drafted into the United States Army and served our country during the Vietnam War. During his military service, he was awarded two Purple Hearts, one of highest military honors in 1966 and The Army Commendation Medal in 1967.
James was married to Cheryl Weeden September 4, 1970 and was blessed with five children from that union. James and Cheryl Divorced May 1984. James married Shirley Edwards on December 24, 1997 and was blessed with three children from that union.
James was a hardworking man of integrity, loyalty, patience, kindness, courage, love and a true gentleman. He believed in community support, volunteerism and donating to important causes. James had a great sense of humor and a love for REAL music while he occasionally sang a note or two. James loved children. He served as a foster parent and an advocate for education. James was an avid gun collector, enjoyed travel, outdoor activities and watching his favorite shows on the Discovery Channel. He also loved sports. His favorite team was the Arkansas Razorback Football team.
James served as a Phoenix Police Officer for two years and went on to serve as a Civil Service Worker for over thirty years where he displayed superior work ethic and dedication to his role. During his service, he was given multiple awards for exceptional performance.
James entered into rest on May 15, 2021, knowing that he had a host of family and friends who loved him dearly.
James was preceded in death by his Father LD Wesson and Mother Alta Wesson, Sister Leola Stephens, Daughter Sylvia Binford and Sister in love Loretta Thompson Williams. He leaves to Cherish in his memories, Wife Shirley Wesson, Sons: Lorne Wilson and Lance Wilson; Daughters: Lynn Wilson, Kim Ping, Angela Wesson, Sheila Reed and Carla Cravin. Brothers: Melvin, Charles, Lewis and Phillip Wesson, and Sister Joyce Gossett. James was blessed with 30 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends whom he loved.
