Jeanne Adele (Pearson) Hopkins boarded the Heavenly Express Saturday, January 10, 2015. She was born in Denver, Colorado to Burgess & Emily Pearson. Her family moved to Phoenix when she was sixteen and she graduated from North High. After high school she worked in the insurance industry before meeting the love of her life, Wendell Hopkins. On January 20, 1946 they married and she became a stay at home mother to two wonderful sons. As a family they were deeply involved in their church, enjoyed camping, and fishing. The four of them also participated in the Phoenix Clown Club bringing smiles to sick children in the area hospitals. When the boys were grown she returned to work at J C Penney in the office. Jeanne loved the outdoors and would rather be puttering with her flowers than stuck in the house. She nurtured her roses to produce magnificent blooms. As time passed and her sons married she became a grandmother and finally a great-grandmother, titles which she enjoyed. She loved to engage the children in conversation and was always amazed at what they said. Sadly in 2012 she lost Wendell to Alzheimer’s disease. She will be missed by many but greeted by Wendell and those who went before her. Jeanne is survived by her sons Gregg Hopkins (Sally), Glenn Hopkins (Stephanie), grandson Gregg Hopkins II., granddaughters Hillary Cappel (Craig), Emily Hopkins, and Tiffany Rust (Charlie); finally her four great-grandchildren Brianne Rust, Connor Cappel, Kylie Cappel, and Riley Hopkins. She is also survived by four nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wendell, sisters Nan Wharton and Lorilee Pearson.
There will be a graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery on Thursday, January 15,2015 at 10 A.M. in Phoenix. In lieu of flowers please make donations of new toys or gift cards to Cardon Children’s Medical Center Toy Closets, 1400 South Dobson Road, Mesa, AZ 85202. Help bring a smile to a sick child.
