

John Wesley Burlew II joined his fellow Marines in guarding Heaven’s streets on July 12, 2016 after having fought the good fight against Lewey Body Dementia for several years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Estella Rebecca Draper and his father, Herman William Burlew. Also preceding him in death are his siblings William Burlew, Dallas Burlew, and Idella Mae Blum. Delores Burlew, his sister, survives, as well as his wife of 36 years, Belen Antonio Burlew and his son, Dexter Antonio Burlew (spouse Brenda); also surviving are his daughters Signe Vandenberg, JoDanielle Oiler (spouse John), Letrece Burlew (spouse James Alvarez), and also his son, Devin Burlew (spouse Michelle). John had 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. John had tremendous love for his family, his Church and the Marine Corps. He enjoyed spending his time visiting with his granddaughters Natalie, Allyson and Tiffany at their home in Virginia. He enjoyed serving in several callings in the local congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints including youth teacher and as a local missionary. Most of all, he thoroughly enjoyed visiting with fellow Marines with whom he served during the Korean War. John was jack of all trades and an entrepreneur at heart. He reached the rank of sergeant while serving in the Marine Corps during the Korean War in a mobile rocket battery. After the war, he attended his beloved college, Brigham Young University. From there, he worked for various companies such as Boeing, Lockheed, Kokosai, as well as the LDS Church. Eventually, John would run several home-based import-export businesses. John Wesley Burlew II was born on 14 August 1933 at House Valley, Coconino County, Arizona. He passed away in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona on 12 July 2016. His family invites you to join them for the viewing services at the Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park, 400 South Power Road, Mesa, AZ 85206 on Monday, 18 July 2016, from 4:00 PM through 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 10305 East Southern Avenue, Mesa, Arizona on Tuesday, 19 July 2016 from 10:00 through 11:00 AM. Interment will be at the National Memorial Ceremony of Arizona, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona at 12:30 PM.
