

Joseph “Barney” Ruble, 74, passed away in his sleep the evening of Saturday, October 18th after battling pulmonary fibrosis for over 3 years. He is survived by his wife, Catherine, his daughter and son-in-law, Joanna and Travis Wood, as well as his step-granddaughter, Hanna Battee. He is also survived by his wife’s family, sister in law, Maggie Potesta and niece, Lisa Svizzero. His life was marked by love, devotion, and unwavering spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love and loyalty that will be cherished forever.
Joe was born in East Chicago, IN to James and Frances Ruble on June 20, 1951. He grew up in Hammond, IN and was one of 9 children, several of whom preceded him in death. His surviving siblings are Marlene Winkler, Lil (Henry) Peters, Tom Ruble, and Jeanette Francis. He also has many other surviving nieces and nephews. Joe attended Gavit High School in Hammond, IN and spent the majority of his life in the NWI area. He was also a US Army veteran. Prior to retirement in Mesa, AZ in the early 2000’s, Joe was a ready mix truck driver, a long time employee of Ozinga, and a member of the Teamsters Union.
If you knew Joe, you know jokes, laughter, and an all around good time was had in his presence. His attention to detail in anything he did was unmatched. His opinions were strong, but his pizza preferences were stronger. He will be deeply missed in this world.
In true “Barney” fashion, there will not be any formal funeral arrangements. If you wish, any donations can be placed in Joe’s name to Hospice of the Valley.
