

Dr. Leatha “Lisa” Stephens, of Tempe, AZ; born August 2, 1927 in Copper Hills, AZ passed away on November 15, 2011 at the age of 85. Lisa was a 2nd generation native Arizonan who was part of an old ranching family and whose grandfather was one of the founders of Globe. She graduated from Globe High School and ASU; was a school Administrator, she taught at Phoenix College, was a Pacific Regional Director and Master Judge of the National Federation of Garden Clubs, President of Arizona School Administrators, Past President of Saguaro Garden Club, President of Arizona Federation of Garden Clubs and President of Desert Designers. Lisa is survived by her husband of 28 years, Col. Billie L. Stephens; daughters C. Joni Adams and Cathy S. McGowan; stepson Lt. Col. William R. Stephens; sister Ethel Bryant Caffell; grandchildren Christopher Bryant Adams, Julia Elizabeth-Adams-Cruz, Andrew Stephens, Emily Stephens, Angela Stephens, Richard Stephens and Debbie Stephens; great grandchildren Addison Cruz and Carter Cruz. She is preceded in death by her parents Theodore Francis and Mary [Lewis] Bryant; stepsons Maj. John Stephens and James Lee Stephens. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, November 28 at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd, Mesa. Lisa’s passion was gardening and helping animals and she was a passionate lifelong educator.
