He was born In Ajo, Arizona June 27, 1934, son of Manuel and Trinidad (Ynigo) Yanez.
Mario was a heavy duty mechanic for Phelps Dodge Mining Corporation. In his younger years he played baseball, softball and served as an umpire. He also enjoyed music, dancing, reading, playing cards and spending time with his family. He was a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dora (Velasquez); loving children Mario Jr. (Cynthia), Michael (Veronica), Mark, Melissa (Gary) and his adoring grandchildren; Michael II (Venessa); Paige (Matthew); Mario III; Jason (Ashley) and great grandchildren Damon, Sabrina Brees (Stayton), Savannah Brees; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mario was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Trinidad, as well as his siblings; Gevermo, Ida, Adelina, Manuel, Modesto, Mauro, Marcello, Medardo and Maximiliano.
Mario’s Memorial Mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 1534 N. Recker Rd., Mesa, AZ 85205 on Wednesday, October 23 at 10 a.m.
His interment will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 2929 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85024 on Tuesday, October 29 at 11 a.m.
