Born in May 1940 in Fresno, CA, Marjory was the second of five children to John and Elvira Geringer. Growing up in Fresno, she developed a passion for music, actively participated in church activities, and excelled as both a student and an athlete at Bullard High School, where she graduated in 1958.
Marjory attended Anderson College (now University), majoring in business administration and minoring in music. She also met her future husband, Bill, at Anderson.
Professionally, Marjory worked as a teacher and school librarian before spending more than 20 years as an administrator at numerous skilled nursing facilities and retirement communities in the greater Fresno area. She was known for her ability to bring order and consistency to the facilities she managed.
Marjory was a long-time member and, at times, director of the church choir at First Church of God in Fresno, where she also helped lead singing for decades as part of the worship team. She served on many church-related boards and committees, including the board of Camp Oakhurst, located north of Fresno, where she and her husband, Bill, contributed for some 25 years starting with its inception in the late 1970s. Those who worked with her appreciated her steady and trustworthy decision-making.
While Marjory spent most of her life in Fresno, she moved to Arizona in 2021 to be near family. She will be remembered for her poise, graciousness, and heart for service, all of which reflected her “quiet life” of faith in Jesus (I Thessalonians 4:11).
Marjory is survived by her husband of 65 years, C. William (Bill) Norris, who always considered her the love of his life. She is also survived by four siblings, Jonelle Anderson (Roy, dec'd), Connie Armstrong (Greg), John Geringer (Mary) and Virginia Mueller (Manfred); by two children, Michael Norris (Jacqueline) and Marcia Norris; by four grandchildren, Tim Norris (April), Jeremy Norris (Sarah), Stephanie Brinkerhoff (James) and Kayra Norris; and by nine great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on January 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Church of God, 3920 N. First St., Fresno, CA 93722. A lunch reception will follow.
