Miner Miller was born on November 29, 1929, in Moorhead, Sunflower County, Mississippi. She was the seventh child of Elmer Moore Miller Thomas and had six sisters and three brothers, all of whom have preceded her in death.
Coming from a large family, Miner herself raised a large family. She is survived by her children: JoAnn Thompson (Chicago, IL); Dicey Miller (Chicago, IL); Loston Miller (Chicago, IL); Joseph Taylor (Chicago, IL); Roy Tippett (Gilbert, AZ); Aretta Louis (Preston, MS); Lee Anna Reed (West Helena, AR); Leorn Reed (Chandler, AZ); and Otis Steele (Little Rock, AR). Ella Mae Washington, her daughter, has preceded her in death (Chicago, IL). Additionally, Miner is survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Miner spent her early years (1929–1952) in Mississippi, primarily in Sunflower County and Greenwood. She worked as a sharecropper and homemaker. In 1952, she moved to Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, where she lived for much of her life. Briefly, from 1983 to 1985, she lived in Chicago, IL, but she didn’t enjoy the big city life. She returned to Helena-West Helena until 2007, when she moved to Arizona to be near her two sons who lived in Mesa, AZ. Miner resided in Arizona until her passing in 2025.
Miner spent her final years in her own apartment, where she dedicated much of her time to studying her Bible and writing in her journal. Miner always had her own understanding of the Bible and her relationship with EL, the Almighty God, frequently saying, “This world is not our home.” For the last two years of her life, she lived in an adult care facility. She was a meek and humble soul, always respecting others.
Miner Miller passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, and has gone home to be with the Lord. Though we are sad to see her go, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with our Creator.
We, her family, wish her Godspeed and are thankful to have known her and to know that she is with the Lord.
Blessed be the name of the Lord, EL, the Almighty God, and Jesus, the self-existing eternal Jehovah, Immanuel (with us is EL).
During this time of grief, we wish all of the loved ones of Miner peace and comfort on behalf of the entire staff at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Care.
