

Nell-Marie M. Anderson (nee McCaslin), 96, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Forest Hill, MD passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Her body will be flown back to Maryland so that she can rest beside her husband who predeceased her in 1990. Arrangements are private. Born in Salina, KS in 1915, the family moved to Chicago, IL when she was nine. In 1942, during WWII, she joined the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corp (WAAC). She was stationed at Ft. Des Moines, IA; Camp David, NC; and Camp Butner, NC during her 3 years in service, always working in the finance departments. She met he husband, Herbert W. Anderson, at Camp Butner and they were married October 13, 1945 shortly before her discharge. The couple resided in Harford County, MD most of their married life. After the death of her husband, she moved to Mesa, AZ to be near her sisters. While there, she was a proud member of the American Legion and the WAC Vets and travelled to Washington, DC when the Women in Military Service to America Memorial was dedicated in 1992. At the age of 90, she was the oldest commander of a VFW unit in the US. Surviving are her daughter, Mara-Lynn Fahey and her husband Kevin; her grandchildren, Kevin Fahey Jr., Heather and Walter Valentine, and Sean and Alice Fahey and great-grandchildren Robert and William Valentine. She is survived by her sisters Virginia Lynch and Dorthy Skinner both of Mesa, AZ.
