Forever In Our Hearts

Peggy Weinhold, age 94, of Tempe AZ passed away on August 9, 2025 in her home, surrounded by loved ones. Peggy Lou Hughes Weinhold, daughter of Kusil and Irene (Redford) Hughes was born on July 25, 193,1 in Douglass, Kansas.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Jake), parents, brother (Jack Hughes) and son (Mark Weinhold). Peggy is survived by: children, David (Anne); Matthew (Sue); and Krista (Tim); nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Peggy graduated from Washington University in 1953, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and married Robert (Jake) Weinhold , July 20, 1953. After many years as an RN in a variety of healthcare settings, Peggy completed a nurse practitioner program in 1978. 1980 brought Peggy and Jake to Arizona and after a short retirement period, Peggy returned to the workforce as a Nurse Practitioner, receiving license #53 in Arizona in 1984, and finally retiring after a 61 year career in December 2014.

Peggy was a Doer and enjoyed a variety of activities: sewing, gardening, leather work, travel, knitting, furniture refurbishing, varied crafts, and fervent following of the Phoenix Suns basketball team. She was a determined woman who made her own way. She began her education in a one room schoolhouse in the middle of Kansas. She started college on a music scholarship at Emporium Teachers College, then sold her instruments to enroll at Washington University. Peg juggled being a pastor’s wife, nurse and raising four children during the 50s and 60s. She was loyal to a fault and was a cherished friend as well as employee to everyone for whom she worked. Peg was the hub that the family spun on. She sewed Christmas stockings for dozens of family members and sent toffee every Christmas to Jake’s siblings. She was concerned with details of our lives and the needs of others to the end. Some of her last words were “Stand up. Speak Out. All hands on deck!”. Pretty good words to live by.

There will be no formal services.
