Richard (Dick) Homer, 93, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully the morning of April 26, 2025. His daughter Jill, sons Bruce and Doug had all shared time and memories with him over his last two weeks. Dick was also visited over the last few months by Leann, Michele and Terry, as well as grandchildren and two of his 4 great-grandchildren. He was surrounded by people who loved him dearly and will miss him every day.
Dick was born and raised in Ohio. He entered the US Army following graduation and enjoyed the travel it provided, especially his time in Germany. He had met the love of his life, Marilyn Moore, before enlisting. Upon returning to Ohio following discharge, he proposed and they were married. Richard and Marilyn welcomed their three children, Bruce, Doug, and Jill in Ohio.
The Young family was ready for an adventure and moved to sunny Arizona where they lived the remainder of their lives. Their children were involved in many activities and sports and Dick and Marilyn were always in the stands to cheer them on.
A long held dream became a reality when they were able to purchase a lot in Forest Lakes, Arizona. Over time, they had a cabin built on the property and spent many hours creating the getaway of their dreams. The beautiful cabin was a treasure to them and they shared it with family and friends.
After retirement from Motorola, Dick joines a hiking club and enjoyed playing golf with Marilyn, his adult children and friends. Together the two of them traveled extensively where they expanded their friendships with people from as far away as Australia. Dick and Marilyn loved to go on cruises and we all enjoyed seeing the photos which captured their joy. Sadly Marilyn went home to the Lord first in June of 2019. Their love was strong and Dick had her portrait in his room so her face was the first face he saw each morning and the last face he saw each night including when he left this world to join her.
Dick was an animal lover. He always had a dog that would cuddle up next to him. The admiration was mutual and they were both lucky and loved. He also loved to garden and his plants were gorgeous. There were always red flowers in his garden as red was his favorite color. Dick always had candy close by. We all benefited from his candy jar and roasted peanut containers. Just don't ask him to share his butterscotch pie or shrimp cocktail!
Dick loved his children and the spouses his children chose. He would always have a funny story or expression that would capture his sense of humor and enjoyment spent with them. Weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, or just visits would bring laughter and fun to everyone.
Dick was an incredible grandfather. His love for his 4 grandsons and 2 granddaughters was magnificent. From the time they were small and all the way to their own marriages and children of their own, he would light up when he was around them. He always took time for play and fun.
Dick is survived by his sons Bruce Homer (Michele), Doug Homer (Leann), and daughter Jill Salomon (Terry). Richard is also survived by his grandchildren Nic Homer (Katie), Krista Homer, Jake Homer (Grete), Whitney Salem (Trey), Zac Homer (Tori), and Maxton Homer (Savannah); and 4 great grandchildren, Sylvia Homer, Sten Homer, Layton Salem, and Arthur Homer.
When you think of him, grab a piece of candy, look up to the heavens and he will be smiling down at you while you share the memory of him.
"That pain you feel is from the piece of your heart that your Dad took with him so he'd always feel your love. In the times when the pain is the strongest is when he holds that piece a little tighter and whispers, "I miss you too.'"
