Born September 20, 1942, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Marie Butler Meyer and Herbert Meyer, Dick grew up as the only son among four sisters—a role that helped shape his strong character, humor, and lifelong appreciation for family.
Dick attended Pace University in New York City, balancing full-time studies with full-time work at Peat Marwick and Mitchell (now KPMG)—a testament to the drive and work ethic that defined his life. A move to Milwaukee, Wisconsin set the stage for both his career and his future.
In 1972, Dick met Dorothy “Dotty” Kucera, beginning a 53-year partnership built on love, laughter, and shared adventure. Together they raised two sons, Richard Michael and Benjamin Charles, building a life across Wisconsin, Texas, Florida, and eventually Arizona.
Dick became a respected leader in the convenience retailing industry, known for his insight, candor, and ability to see around corners. He founded Meyer and Associates Consulting, advised industry leaders, and co-founded CSX—a pioneering business intelligence platform later acquired by the National Association of Convenience Stores. Over his career, he published more than 100 articles and spoke at conferences around the world, leaving a lasting mark on the industry he loved.
In 2009, a spontaneous trip, led Dick and Dotty to Mesa, Arizona, where they quickly made a home and lasting friendships. After retiring in 2015, Dick embraced his love of golf, enjoying the game several times a week.
Above all, Dick was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished time with family, took pride in their accomplishments, and found joy in every opportunity to be together.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dotty; his sons, Richard Michael (Angie) and Benjamin Charles (Andrea); his grandchildren, Ayana, Forest, Brooks, and Beckett; and his sisters, Barbara (Pat) Sciancalepore and Lynn Connelly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Brown, and sisters Sandy Beard and Melody Reese.
