

Roberta Mary Jay was born on August 17, 1937 in Moline Illinois to Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Jay.
When Roberta was about 12 years old the family moved to Mesa, Arizona where Roberta attended Washington Elementary School, Mesa High School and graduated in 1956. After high school graduation she had several jobs from working as an aid at the old Southside Hospital in Mesa, as a helper in a bakery her father worked at and later she provided seasonal sales assistance at a retail store where her mother Fern Jay was the General Manager. For several years she provided child care for her younger sister’s children and several friends’ children. In later years she worked as an assistant in the cafeteria for Lowell Elementary School also in Mesa.
Roberta was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mesa and had many friends and relatives that would visit her often. She was a member of the TOPS group for several years and enjoyed the camaraderie with the other women.
She loved Classic Country music and enjoyed calling and talking to the local country radio DJs at several radio stations.
She will be interned at the City of Mesa Cemetery located in Mesa, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her mother Fern, father Ralph and half sister Gwen Vande Walle.
She is survived by her younger sister Sara Buchanan, her younger brother Daniel Jay and nieces Carrie Matteson, Sara Matteson, Gail Vande Walle, nephews Seth Matteson, Randy Vande Walle and a cousin Dorothy Jay-Gomez.
The family will have a graveside service only.
