Roger John Steinbach, Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on January 23, 2025, at the age of 76. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 19, 1948, Roger grew up in Hillsboro, Missouri. He was an active student-athlete, excelling in baseball and basketball at Hillsboro High School, from which he graduated in 1966.
Roger’s sense of duty led him to enlist in the United States Air Force, where he served as a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Technician. He worked as an F-15 flight line expediter and crew chief for the F-4. His military service took him to various locations, including Eglin AFB in Florida, Takhli, Thailand during the Vietnam War, and Nellis AFB, where he met the love of his life, Virginia Spendlove. They married in 1973, and soon after, welcomed their daughter, Wendy. In 1975, the family moved to Bitburg, Germany, where their son, Roger Jr., was born. After a few years in Europe, they relocated to Luke AFB in Glendale, Arizona, where Roger remained stationed until his retirement in 1986 as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of dedicated service.
Following his military career, Roger transitioned to the civilian workforce, spending 25 years at Boeing as an FOD (Foreign Object) Inspector for the Boeing 787 program. He retired from Boeing in 2013 and, along with Virginia, made their home in Mesa, Arizona, close to their children and grandchildren. Roger adored his family, and cherished every moment spent with them.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Herbert Steinbach; his sister, Karen Kautzner; his daughter, Wendy Davis; and his grandson, Travis Davis. He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia Steinbach; his son, Roger Steinbach, Jr. (Dena); his sister, Donna Steinbach; his grandchildren, Hannah Steinbach, Vanessa Zugg, Zach Zugg, Brian Davis, Roger Steinbach III and Danielle Steinbach.
Roger’s legacy is his deep love for family, his dedication to his country, and his commitment to excellence in everything he did. Roger will be remembered for his ability to find humor even in the most challenging moments. He will be missed more than words can say—and probably with a few laughs mixed in.
