away on Friday, July 8, 2011, in Mesa, Arizona. Roy served in the United
States Navy from 1948 through 1952 on the U.S.S. Greenwich Bay, the
"Galloping Ghost of the Arabian Coast." He was very proud of his service to
the country and regularly attended ship reunions hosted in many memorable
locations around the United States.
He was well known for his keen and clever wit, excelling in both the
delicate art of practical jokes and the poetry of lightening-quick rejoinders. He practiced exacting skill as a woodworker, creating treasures
large and small, art objects both useful and beautiful. Roy enjoyed
enviable prowess as an involved and loving husband, father and grandfather, bringing levity to any downcast room with a single, "yep!" Each grandchild thrived from his ample investment of time, love and attention.
He is survived by his wife, LaNell and his daughters, Connie and
Kimberly Jo; her daughters, Jan, Ginger and Diana, [Kim was his favorite,
but none of the rest mind], grandchildren Kaci, Travis, Dennis, Kara, Kelly,
Amy and Holly, and 9 great-grandchildren, including one on the way. A
private interment service will be held at National Memorial Cemetery at
10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made to a charity of your choice. Will we miss him? "Yep!"
