

Rudolph (Rudy) J. Garbely, Jr, 81, died Monday, April 16 at home in Gilbert, Arizona. He was born in Newark, New Jersey to Rudolph J. Garbely and Mary Clark. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 35 years Suzanne Jones and his children Rudolph J. Garbely III (Margo), Stephen J. Garbely, James R. Garbely (Mona), and Susan M. Meyers (Steven) as well as five grandchildren Rudolph J. Garbely IV, Kyle T. Garbely, Tessa Garbely, Alec Garbely and Rachel Meyers. He was a dear son-in-law of Patricia Jones; brother-in-law to Richard and Tricia Jones, Linda James, Thomas and Jackie Jones, Kenneth and Doreen Jones, Sylvia Jones and Ronald and Gina Jones. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
After graduating from St. Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark, NY. Rudy enlisted in the Navy in 1955 and served on the U.S.S. Inteprid for four years. He then attended night school to earn his Electrical Engineering degree from the Newark School of Engineering, now a part of Rutgers. He worked for several companies including Occidental Petroleum (Sel-Rex Division), Bull & Roberts Engineering, ITT Cannon and Tri-Star Electronics in engineering and then executive management positions. He holds several patents in plating design and other technologies.
A resident of Phoenix, Arizona for over 40 years Rudy had many interests including fishing, cooking, camping, woodworking and walking his beloved Labrador Retrievers. His interest in news and current events, coupled with his decades of global travels enabled him to be able to engage in conversation with anyone. His sense of humor and strategically placed one liners will be missed by all who knew him. Rudy was passionate about helping wounded veterans, children with terminal illnesses and all animals.
The family will be present on Friday from 6-8 PM at the (Tonawanda Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., where prayers will be offered on Saturday at 8:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated from St. Amelia Church at 9 AM.
