Sam S. Beck

94, passed away on May 7, 2013 in Mesa surrounded by his family. Born in Farrell, PA on April 13, 1919, he was the son of Steve and Sophia Beck and the beloved husband of Miriam Beck. Sam grew up in Michigan before being drafted into the Army during World War II at the age of 21. After completing his military service, he returned to Michigan and married Julie DeBuschere on October 13, 1943 and had four children. Sam worked for Consumer Power & Gas Co. for 25 yrs where he was affectionately known as the “gas guy”. On July 16, 1960, he married Miriam Roth and had three children. In 1972, Sam and Miriam relocated to Mesa, AZ. He was the owner of Beck Stamp Auctions and successfully ran his business until three weeks prior to his death. In his spare time, he was an avid reader with a passion for history. Sam is survived by his wife Miriam; sons Robert (Sally) of Gilbert; Jerry (Annette) of MI; daughters Carol Sennett of Flagstaff, Karen (Brian) Havey of ID; Judi (Ron) VanDevender of MI; Joyce (Bob) Wellman of TN; Jill (Ray) Burke of MI; 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Mariposa Gardens at 6747 E. Broadway Rd in Mesa, on May 17, 2013 at 2:00 pm.
