Shawn Marie (Thompson) Van Coillie of Mesa, Arizona passed away from complications of diabetes surrounded by loving family and friends on Wednesday, May 24th, 2023. Born in Norwich, New York, April 1, 1958. Shawn was the daughter of the late Jayne (Norwood) and Leslie Thompson. She is survived by her husband Steven, their two children Savannah and Sawyer, as well as her three sisters Tina Chapman, Robin Hearburg, and Lisa Fogo.
Shawn moved from New York to Arizona in 1984 and went on to meet her husband Steven Van Coillie in 1987. Shawn found her first calling as a nurse at Tempe St. Lukes Hospital and later became a hospice nurse and case manager at Hospice of the Valley. She found practicing as a hospice nurse very rewarding which proved invaluable as she tended to her own mom at the end of her life.
Her greatest enjoyment was her family and crafting/sewing projects. She would often immerse herself for hours in her sewing room, which also became an obsession as was evident by the mounds of fabric and craft supplies that she surrounded herself with. Shawn also loved nature. One of her favorite places was in the mountains of Colorado in the summer.
Shawn was a lover of animals, which was evident as she cared for the neighborhood cats and always enjoyed being around her children’s dogs.
Shawn loved being a mother and would not hesitate to say that it was her greatest gift in life. Shawn’s ashes will be spread in various mountain locations as her request was to be with nature.
A celebration of life will take place later this year. To offer online condolences please visit Shawn Thompson Van Coillie's Kudoboard | Kudoboard
