Shirley Ann Wall passed away in Mesa, Arizona on April 30, 2013. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Victor and Gladys (nee Smith) Hamill, Shirley was born on June 24, 1930. In her younger years, Shirley’s beauty shined, inside and out. Taking advantage of this, she modeled. Shirley was featured on the cover of Mademoiselle Magazine. She met the love of her life Virgil Wall in Salt Lake City, and the couple married on October 20, 1951. They spent 50 years loving each other, until Virgil passed away in 2001. Shirley and Virgil lived in California following their marriage until moving to Arizona in 2000. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Shirley was dedicated to her family. Her grandson, Alexander, held a special place in her heart, she was very proud of him. Grandma Shirley and Alexander had a weekly Wednesday night dinner date. That was the highlight of the week for both of them. Incredibly wise, she took to a spiritual nature rather than being religious. Being extremely friendly came naturally to Shirley. Always looking for the good in people, she refused to see the bad. A healthy lifestyle and being physically active fit right in with Shirley’s outgoing personality. Reading was a passion for her, along with gardening. She was also interested in Astronomy, this was because of her grandson, Alexander’s interest as well. Music brought joy to Shirley’s ears, she enjoyed all genres from classical to rock. Animals were special to Shirley; her dog, Sara, and parrot, Cocoa, were her babies. Shirley was exceptionally strong in character. Her brave nature never shown so clearly as it did when she faced her own passing, she let go of her Earthly bonds with poise, dignity, and grace. She truly was an example to those who love her. Shirley will forever be missed by those who remain, her daughters, Vickie Wall, and Roxanne Abul-Haj, grandson, Alexander Abul-Haj, sister, Sydney Petrelli, her son-in-law, Alan Abul-Haj, her dog, Sara, and parrot Cocoa. She is preceded in death by her adoring husband, Virgil Wall, and parents Victor and Gladys Hamill. Services honoring Shirley are pending. The family asks that memories be shared on their website at www.MariposaGardens.com.
