
He was born on September 7, 1924 to Cleo and Beatrice (Robinson) Lester in Des Moines, Iowa. After High school, Vernon married Myra Hurd, and was drafted in the Army soon after to serve in World War II in the European theater. After returning from the Army, he and Myra eventually settled in Manchester, IA, where he worked in sales with Baron Motor Supply, and eventually running his own store before retirement in 1985. Vernon and Myra then moved to Mesa, AZ, before settling in Apache Junction. He and Myra were avid golfers, he enjoyed anything to do with automotive, keeping up on all the latest automobiles, enjoyed basketball (he even played on his high school team), enjoyed time with his family and he and Myra would also organize shuttle trips to Las Vegas. He was also active in his church and the VFW.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 72 years, Myra; son Vernon and his wife Sharon Lester; grandchildren Kaylynn, Keith, Christen, Samantha, Dylan; daughter in law Gail; numerous great grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son Scott.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday June 27 at The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 514 S Mountain Road, Mesa, AZ 85208.
