Homer Paul Gray

Homer Paul Gray, age 87, of Mesquite, Texas passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024. He was born July 23, 1937 in North McAlester, Oklahoma to Thomas and Florence Gray. He was married to Miriam Ruth Gray in 1958 and they had two daughters.

After graduating with a BS degree at OK State College, the couple moved to Mesquite, Texas where he began teaching high school at Wilmer Hutchins for 4 years and then at Wilkinson Junior High School. Later he took a teaching position at Mesquite School District at North Mesquite High School. He attended Texas A&M University and received his Master’s degree and then took the position of assistant principal where he was highly regarded as a very loving and caring person who had a very positive influence on the students’ lives. He later became an administrator in the district and also served as the manager for the teacher's paint crew during all his teaching years. He also drove the school bus.

Homer also loved beekeeping, especially gardening and reading many books. He was very involved at his church, First Assembly of God in Mesquite, Texas where they attended for over 64 years. He served on the board for 30 years and helped maintain the church facilities for years and into his retired years. Most of all, he loved the Lord and the Word of God and was a man of God who walked closely with him.

Homer is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Sr. and Florence Gray; brothers, Thomas Jr. and Maurice Gray. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 66 years, Miriam Ruth Gray; brother, Cecil Gray; daughters, Sherry Kelley and husband, David and Kay Adkisson and husband, Perry; 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren who dearly loved their "pepaw"; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Homer will be held Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home, 1111 Military Pkwy, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A funeral service will occur Monday, September 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Trinity Life Church, 1531 N Belt Line Rd, Mesquite, Texas 75149. A committal service will occur Monday, September 23, 2024 at Laurel Oaks Cemetery, 12649 Lake June Rd, Mesquite, Texas 75180.
