Maria Teresita Coronado, born on September 14, 1939, in Agana, Guam, to Vicente Mendiola and Adela Cruz Mendiola, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 30 in Frisco, TX. Maria was the eldest daughter in a family of 15 children. She often shared cherished memories of her childhood on the island, such as weaving mats from leaves to sleep on the beach and climbing coconut trees. Though she left Guam, the island always remained close to her heart.
Maria met her beloved husband, David Salas Coronado, at a drive-in movie theater while he was stationed in Guam with the Marines. They married in Dallas, Texas, in 1959 and built a beautiful life together. Maria earned an associate degree and was a devoted mother to their three children: David Jr., Daniel, and Yolanda. She worked as a dedicated Nutrition Manager at Baylor Scott & White for over 20 years before retiring at 55 to spend more time with her family.
Maria was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who found joy in nurturing her family and welcoming others into her home, she was especially known to have a silly sense of humor always making her children laugh with her wit and pranks. Also known for her hospitality, she delighted in cooking for loved ones and spoiling her grandchildren. Her passion for gardening brought vibrant flowers to life around her home, and she was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Mavericks, and Rangers. Maria and David enjoyed traveling across the country in their RV, creating countless memories with their children and grandchildren.
Maria endured the profound loss of her sons, David Jr. and Daniel, but found comfort in her faith, knowing she would one day reunite with them in heaven along with her parents, cherished loved ones, and her precious dog, Sugar.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, February 6, at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home in Mesquite, TX, followed by a viewing from 5–8 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the same location on Saturday, February 8, at 10 a.m., with burial on Monday, February 10, at 9:15 a.m. at DFW National Cemetery. In honor of Maria’s favorite color, the family requests attendees wear an accent of yellow.
Maria will be deeply missed but is now at peace with the Lord. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
