Norman’s family moved to Mesquite, Texas when he was in grade school. Norman graduated from North Mesquite High School and attended UT Arlington. He was a man of many talents and loved learning. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman who appreciated the beauty of nature. He also enjoyed the power and engineering of auto racing and was a lifelong fan of Formula 1, NASCAR and IndyCar.
Norman married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth in 1974 and shared 47 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with a son and a daughter at a young age and experienced so many beautiful memories with them, which included many camping trips and traveling. He married into a very large family and appreciated the importance of mutual love, respect, and family support.
Norman remembered just about everything he learned and was always reading and expanding his knowledge. People admired him for his honesty, his passion for doing the right thing, and for his generous nature. He had many talents and shared them with so many.
He was raised as Master Mason on April 24, 2007, and was admitted and constituted a Nobel of the Mystic Shrine on April 28, 2007. On July 25, 2009, he became a master of the Royal Secret of the 32nd degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. In 2013, he was named Worshipful Master of the James Ladd Burgess Masonic Lodge, #1305. He worked tirelessly for years for all of his affiliations until his health forced him to the sidelines.
Norman worked with his hands throughout his working career. He often said that he worked his entire life, from the time he was able to pick pecans and sell them door to door, then working a paper route with his brother, then being the youngest employee at Hardie’s Hamburgers at the age of 14. He was extremely talented and was able to break anything down and put it back together with little effort. He was a certified electrician and retired from the Mesquite School District.
Norman was also very creative and after he retired began to work with different media which included stained-glass art, oil and acrylic painting, and metal art.
Norman is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joseph and his beloved in-laws Carmen and Mario Vasquez, Sr.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, son Norman III, daughter-in-law Sararah, daughter Rebecca, grandsons Andrew, Norman IV and Marlon, brother Edward of Virginia, nephews John, Bryan, Joseph, Scott and Cody, in-laws Patricia, Mario, Carlos, Donna and Theresa. He also leaves behind many loving family members and friends.
