Rebecca Rose Welch, age 32, was taken from this world far too early at White Rock Medical Center in Dallas on March 6, 2024. Becca was born on October 14, 1991, the third child of Elizabeth Rose Escalante and Terry James Welch and was a much-desired rainbow baby. Besides her parents, she leaves behind her cherished older sisters, Bonnie Belle Welch (partner James Thomas) and Holly Belle Mullen (husband Sean), her beloved younger sister, Susanna Rose Welch (partner Sean McDonald), her dear nephew Jameson Jeremiah Welch Shields, as well as numerous well-loved aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. Becca is deeply mourned by family and friends and by her treasured pup, Puggles James Welch. She was preceded in death by her precious pup Lyndon Beans Johnson Welch.
Becca was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of two and adapted easily to multiple daily finger sticks and insulin injections. However, after years with the disease she began to develop complications and her life became punctuated by specialist visits and hospital stays. Still, Becca lived a full life. She had a passion for music and excelled at both the cello and the drums. She held the distinction of being the only freshman on the drumline during her first year at John Horn High School in Mesquite.
Becca enjoyed working with children and helping others and attended Richland College and the University of North Texas with the intention of becoming a substance abuse counselor. Her dreams were interrupted when she suffered a stroke in 2020 which left her paralyzed and bedridden for months, totally dependent on her mother for the simplest tasks of daily living. Becca worked hard over several years to regain the ability to walk, use her hands, and read, and despite being left with left-side hemiparesis, she displayed a tenacious will to recover. She received much-appreciated support from her family, most especially from her aunt and uncle Lynda Escalante and Larry King.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home at 1111 Military Parkway in Mesquite, TX, from 4:00 pm until 8 pm on Friday, March 22.
