After a short but difficult battle with brain cancer, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Alvin J. Morant, 76, a native of New Orleans, LA, and a resident of Metairie, LA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Alvin was surrounded by the love of family and friends he cherished.
Alvin was a proud U. S. Army veteran serving in Viet Nam, and then a dedicated employee of 30+ for Winn Dixie Warehouse in Harahan, LA. He was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Rita of Cascia Church in Harahan. Alvin was a simple man and did not need a lot of “stuff” to make him happy. He simply focused on spending most of his time enjoying family. Alvin was also a very active and beloved member of the St. Dominic Men’s Emmaus Retreat Ministry, where he had a tremendous impact on many men while answering God’s call.
Alvin is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of over 55 years, Susan DiLiberto Morvant; son, Bernard Morvant (Melissa), daughters Melanie Morvant Lacombe & Paula Morvant Hebert; grandchildren, Tyler Lacombe (Darby), Meagan Morvant, Natalie Morvant, Julia Hebert, Victoria Hebert, and brother Dominick “Nick” Morvant (Toni) and sister Carol DeCourt (Terry). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and extended family and friends whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominick Morvant Sr., and Julia Morvant Moll.
Funeral Services for Alvin will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home (located at 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd in Metairie LA 70006), visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm, followed by a Catholic mass at 1:00 pm. Private interment to follow at a later date.
