

Bertie Barletter Guhman, 89, was born August 11, 1928 in New Orleans, LA, and joined God in Heaven on Monday, January 15, 2018, at St. Martin’s in the Pines, Birmingham, AL after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years George A. Guhman; her parents Eunice Roddy Carson (Newton) and the late Ellis Joseph Barletter, Sr.; brother, Ellis Joseph Barletter, Jr.; and her sister, Avinell Barletter Faucheaux Emil. Also, preceded by Richard E. Graham, Sr. and Clifford Yochim. She was a loving mother of five children: George H. Guhman (Judy), Rickie A. Guhman (Carolyn), Dawn G. Pearce (Bennett), Dale R. Guhman (Karen), and the late Richard E. Graham, Jr. Grandmother to Stacey Kerry (Troy), Rickie Guhman, Jr. (Jennifer), Jason Guhman (Nicole), Stephanie Kippes (Kris), Ben Pearce, Jr.(Amanda), Kate Pearce, Stacey Gilson (William), Brett LaCava (Nicole), Ashley LaCava Lotz; 9 great grandsons, 7 great granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. Her brother, Jerry Barletter and Karen Barletter (sister-in-law) were so supportive with her care this past year as were many special friends in Birmingham. Bertie worked as a bookkeeper for a Coffee Company, Imperial Meat Company and Pelican Tomato Company. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society at St. Agnes Church and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Jefferson Lion’s Post. Above all, her family was always first. Her grandchildren were her heart and she babysat them every chance she could. Her love of cooking was enjoyed by many. She kept many warm with her talent for crocheting afghans. She enjoyed sitting quietly and completing jigsaw puzzles. Memories of our times with her will be cherished through our years. Our family extends special thanks to Compassus Hospice and the staff of St. Martin’s in the Pines. They surrounded her with love and outstanding care. A service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Boulevard, near Clearview Parkway in Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 12:00p.m. Interment will be in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, 5454 Pontchartrain Boulevard New Orleans, LA.
