Betty Russell

Betty Russell, age 95, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve 2024. She was born in Memphis, TN to Ann and Melvin Griffin on September 8, 1929. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joseph M. Russell. She is survived by three children, Ronald Russell (Susan), Sandra Russell and Gail Peacock (Ray); two grandchildren, Sarah Logan (Ryan) and Zacariah Russell in addition to three great- grandchildren, Xavier, Alexa and Kara.

After living in several different cities, in 1970, she and Joe finally found their dream home in New Orleans. She was an avid gardener, growing beautiful flowers as well as an array of vegetables. Betty truly enjoyed being in the kitchen, preparing delicious menus for family and friends. Many meals included different recipes she had tasted during her world travels.

Betty started her long career with Sears demonstrating grills and bow-making machines. Her career followed her to every city she lived in, and eventually, she became the inventory manager at the Oakwood Mall store. Betty never met a stranger and anyone who met her was embraced by her kind and loving ways. She was pure of soul and heart, a lover of all things good, kind and beautiful. She will be sorely missed by many.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Prayer Service at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie, LA 70006 on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm.
