

Charles E. Murphy passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the age of 84. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Murphy settled in New Orleans. His love for all things New Orleans radiated from deep inside, including that for his bride of more than 60 years, the late Myra Carambat Murphy, a New Orleans native. He is preceded in death by his father Charles Augustine Murphy, and his mother Mary Brennan Murphy. He is survived by his beloved daughter Laura Lee Murphy, granddaughter Rachel Ann Ferreira, and sister Joan Claire Murphy. Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Charles attended Tulane University in New Orleans where he studied business. He served his country honorably in the United States Army as a military police officer during the Korean War. Charles was a music enthusiast, proudly playing the drums in multiple big bands over the course of more than 60 years. He played his last set on December 23, 2015 with The Jay Zainey Orchestra, surrounded by family, friends and the bandmates he had played beside for more than 30 years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial gathering at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Tuesday morning, March 15, 2016 beginning at 9:00 AM with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel.
