Dennis Joseph Sahuque, age 68, of Kenner, Louisiana, entered into eternity with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 4, 2025. He was the loving husband of Sharon Freeling Sahuque for 47 years; devoted and caring father of Danielle Marie Sahuque and Michelle Ann Sahuque; and proud grandfather of Aubrey, August, Adley, Huxley, Jeremiah, and Elody. Dennis was the son of the late Paul Lawrence Sahuque and Dorothy Sommers Sahuque. He was the beloved brother of Paulette Lemoine (Steve), Diane Guillot (Brian), Tommy Sahuque, Susan LeBreton (Rene), and the late Paul Sahuque. He was the cherished son-in-law of Bernadette and the late William Freeling, Jr., and brother-in-law of William Freeling, III, Robert Freeling, and the late Leslie Freeling Sander. He is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. Dennis certainly never met a stranger.
Dennis loved being a “girl dad” — his daughters were his world. He coached their basketball and softball teams, and Saturday games often ended with a trip to Domilise’s for roast beef po-boys and Barq’s root beer. There were countless mornings spent over coffee and beignets at Morning Call, enjoying po-boys at Short Stop, and cooling off with snowballs from Sunny’s.
One of Dennis’s greatest joys was taking his family on their annual trip to the beach. He cherished early morning runs along the shoreline, followed by cooking a big breakfast for everyone to enjoy together. He loved listening to his music while relaxing on the sand and playing in the waves with his grandchildren—creating treasured memories that will live on in the hearts of his family.
An avid runner, Dennis was a proud member of the 5:20! Running Club for 30 years. He ran two marathons, a half marathon, and many local races, including the Crescent City Classic for over 20 years—finishing in the top 500 each time.
A gifted craftsman, Dennis had a passion for remodeling bathrooms and kitchens, creating unique designs and stunning tile work. As a talented flooring specialist, he took pride in his meticulous attention to detail, bringing beauty and creativity into countless homes through his custom creations.
His greatest joy came from his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Goopy.” Whether flipping pancakes after a sleepover, cooking a big family dinner, blasting music for everyone to enjoy, cheering them on at school events, or turning a cardboard box into a thrilling ride down the levee, he made life brighter, warmer, and more fun. He also shared with them his lifelong love for music—a passion that ran through every chapter of his life.
For Dennis, music was more than entertainment; it was a language of the soul. It accompanied his happiest celebrations, brought comfort in difficult moments, and became a bridge between his heart and those he loved. As some say, music is the bridge between earth and heaven—and it’s through that bridge his spirit now plays on.
Above all, Dennis was a faithful servant of God. He shared the Word and the love of Christ with everyone he met. He ran his race and finished strong. We are comforted knowing he is now in the presence of the Lord, free from pain and suffering. “His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’” – Matthew 25:23
A memorial gathering for Dennis will be held Friday, August 15, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Metairie, Louisiana 70006, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM.
