As a banker and a business consultant, his clients included hundreds of business owners in dozens of industries around the United States and in foreign countries.
He worked for U.S. intelligence agencies in Vietnam and other Asian countries as an intelligence analyst, Chinese linguist and cryptanalyst and held a top secret-cryptographic security clearance. Don attended Tulane University; Yale University's Institute of Far Eastern Languages (New Haven); the University of Maryland (Far East Division, Japan); and U.S. intelligence agency training schools. He was an honors graduate, class leader and co-valedictorian of his Chinese class at Yale. While in banking, he graduated from the National Commercial Lending School at The University of Oklahoma.
Don loved music and played piano, very badly. He loved to fly airplanes. He spoke five languages, some pretty well.
He was a frequent speaker to area civic and business organizations on U.S. intelligence, military and defense; issues about which he was passionate. He also presented national teleconferences and regional lectures on Risk Management issues. He was a member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was a pilot with commercial, multi-engine and instrument ratings. He was heavily involved in Kiwanis, Special Olympics and other civic, service and volunteer organizations, and was a co-founder and board member of a public non-profit charity that provides college scholarships and other support to area youths.
