

Doris Elizabeth Deckwa, a loving mother and business owner, passed from this earth on Monday, March 3 at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family during the last weeks of life. Her family is forever grateful to the compassionate caretakers, nurses, and doctors who attended to her during the last period of her life. She was 85 years old. Better known to many as Ms. D, or Ms. Doris, Mrs. Deckwa was born on September 3, 1939, to Sam Gregory Junda and Dorothy Frothingham Junda. She grew up in the Carrolton area of New Orleans along with her beloved brother, Sam Junda, and sister, Patricia Tenhundfeld. Mrs. Deckwa graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1957. She also attended community college where she studied accounting and office management. Highly accomplished throughout her life, Mrs. Deckwa worked various jobs while raising her children. Mrs. Deckwa and her husband, Bill Deckwa, opened their own company in 1984, Wholesale Siding and Window Supply. With a dedication to hard work and customer support, the Deckwas built the company, which is still flourishing in its 41st year, into a great success. In addition to being a successful businesswoman, Mrs. Deckwa was a woman of many talents. She was an excellent cook and loved preparing meals for her friends and family. Of her many talents, most would highlight her sense of humor and her ability to establish and maintain long lasting relationships with her many friends. She took great pride in her children and her grandchildren throughout her long and blessed life. Mrs. Deckwa was married to her beloved and loving husband, the late Bill Deckwa, for 52 years. While residing in Metairie for the past five decades, The Deckwas raised six children: Rob Picou (Jodi), Terry Deckwa Duvieilh (Warren), Rhonda Picou Sabadie (Guy), William Deckwa III (Elaine), Donna Picou Crowley (Kevin), and Chris Deckwa (Kim). “Granny” was also blessed with 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A celebration of Doris Deckwa’s life will be held on Saturday, March 15 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, with a Funeral Mass directly following at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie.
