Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Montegut Schmidt passed away surrounded by her family on Monday morning, September 18, 2017. She was 66 years old. Beloved wife of Arthur C. Schmidt Jr. for over 46 years. Loving mother of Arthur C. Schmidt III (Brian), Margie Schmidt Brierre, Edmond M. Schmidt (Jodie), Michael F. Schmidt, and Christopher M. Schmidt. Grandmother of Lance Cpl. Andre C. Brierre Jr., Beau D. Brierre, Dresden A. Brierre, Jacques T. Brierre, Ethan E. M. Schmidt, Oliver W. Schmidt, and Amelia M. Schmidt. Sister of the late Michele F. Montegut. Her parents, Marjorie and Edmond Montegut, both passed when she was a young girl, and she was then raised by her aunt and uncle, the late Violet and Frank Lochbaum as well as her late uncle Msgr. Malcolm Strassel. She was the beloved daughter-in-law of the late Margie and Arthur Schmidt Sr. Liz was a native of Algiers and a resident of the New Orleans area for the majority of her life. She graduated high school from St. Charles Borromeo in 1969 and attended The University of New Orleans. She worked briefly at Montegue Finance Company and established Twinstar Leasing Ltd. with her husband. Her most rewarding work was loving and caring for her husband, children, their spouses, and grandchildren. She was most proud of their accomplishments. Throughout the years, she was a member of the New Orleans Collie Club, Mother of Twins Club, and was an active parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Church and School. In her free time, Liz found great joy from cooking large meals for family and friends. Indeed, Liz will often be remembered sitting around a large table enjoying the company of her loved ones. She had an open-door policy for the many friends of her children. Through this, she bestowed on them the value of helping others and giving more than you take. Without fail, she would say goodbye to her children and grandchildren with the words “I love you more.” In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans or the USO. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at LEITZ-EAGAN Metairie, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard,on Saturday afternoon, September 23, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until Mass time.
