Ellen McDonnell Famularo

Ellen McDonnell Famularo passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family and friends, on July 1, 2024 at the age of 71. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dennis John Famularo. Loving mother of Kelley Famularo and Kevin Famularo. She is also survived by sister-in-law Vicki Messina (Mike), brother-in-law Craig Famularo (Susan) as well as nieces and nephews Cali Messina, Bryant Messina, Christina Rodrigue (Tony), and grand-nieces Chloe Schexnayder and Valentina Rodrigue. She is also survived by extended family and close friends that she considered family especially Patrick and Peggy Keller (and family), Anne Daly, and her very special nursing friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Matthew McDonnell, and her mother, Agnes Dysart McDonnell. She was the daughter-in-law of the late John Joseph Famularo and Joyce Mattel Famularo. Ellen was born July 8, 1952 at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, grew up in Lower Garden District, and was a resident of Metairie since 1979. She attended St. Alphonsus elementary school, Mercy Academy, and Louisiana State University Nursing School. After nursing school, Ellen worked as a registered nurse on the 5th floor at St. Charles General Hospital for 30 years and later joined People’s Health where she worked until she retired in 2015. Ellen lived her life always giving of herself to others. She loved being with her family and friends and spending time at her getaway on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Mary’s Assumption Church, 2030 Constance Street, New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 beginning at 10:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 12:00 noon.
