October 9, 1948 in Olla, Louisiana our Heavenly Father blessed Robert and Tensie Miles with a special gift of a new baby girl. They named her Elouise. She was the youngest of all her siblings. In the Book of Ecclesiastes, we are reminded that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under Heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot”. Our Sovereign God determines all our times. On December 28, 2017 at 6:30pm at Keller Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Keller, Texas, God dispatched His death angel to earth to reclaim His own Elouise Sneed. God has that right because he is Sovereign. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away: May the name of the Lord be praised. Elouise grew up in a loving Christian family. At a tender age Elouise accepted The Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. The church and her Christian faith was a vital part of her life. The love, guidance, encouragement, and most of all, the bible provided a place and a source of comfort, and a refuge in times of trouble. As an adult, Elouise rededicated her life to Christ and was baptized in the Church of Christ. She was a devoted member of Church of Christ both in New Orleans, Louisiana and Saginaw, Texas for over thirty years. Elouise was born into a family that was deeply rooted in education. Her mother, Tensie, taught all her children to value higher learning. Elouise graduated salutatorian from Goodpine High School in 1966. She continued her studies at Grambling State University and earned her business education degree in 1972. Her love for education eventually led her to become a business educator for Orleans Parish School Board. She taught business and typing classes for over 20 years to countless children. Elouise enjoyed life. She was fearless, daring and easy going; she could be the life of the party or the party organizer in the background that ensured everyone had a great time. Her family and friends loved talking and enjoying time with her. She was a great listener and routinely gave honest, sound advice to anyone that asked; and some that didn’t. Elouise was also known for her delicious cooking. Family members would ask (beg lol) for dishes to be made for family gatherings. Whether it was a meringue pie (brother in law Mike), bell peppers (nephew Darrell) or her gumbo (everyone), it would be eaten quickly and completely. She was an avid professional football fan. She was a diehard New Orleans Saints fan, but she also liked Aaron Rodgers and Mike Tomlin (her blackberry). Her love of life extended beyond her personal circle of family and friends. She was devoted to social awareness as well. As a devoted member of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Dallas, she spread awareness of the disease to others through discussion, print, and city events. Elouise also loved to sew. As she raised her children, she sewed many outfits for them that they treasured and wore with pride. Within the last ten years, she began to sew baby blankets that she would gift to newborns of family and friends and would also donate to hospitals. More than anything, Elouise loved to write. She would sit and write for hours on end to pass the time, as well as, organize her thoughts and plans. Her love for writing led her to become a published author. She wrote a children’s book, “Who Is Mr. Buzz?” She was so excited to receive the first copy. Her family couldn’t have been prouder of her. The earthly life of Elouise is over. She is gone from our view, but will always linger in our hearts. She leaves to cherish her memory her former husband, Herbert Sneed of New Orleans, Louisiana; daughter, Tiffani Bly (Keith) of Saginaw, Texas; son, Kenneth Sneed (LaShondra) of Dallas, Texas; godchildren, Lionel Mansion (Jackie) of New Orleans, Louisiana and Eugene Rouzan, Jr. (Dee) of Slidell, Louisiana; brothers, Shelton Miles (Doris) and Robert Miles, Jr., both of Olla, Louisiana; sisters, Anne Webb of Oakland, California, Daisy Shelton of Fort Worth, Texas, Betty Luther of Arcadia, Florida, and Rita Miles of Olla, Louisiana; grandchildren, Rayani Lee of Saginaw, Texas and Kenneth Sneed, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; and a host of special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Tensie Miles and granddaughter, Kinley Sneed. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Homegoing Service for Elouise on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 12:00 noon at BEECHER MEMORIAL CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 1914 North Miro Street, New Orleans. Visitation will begin in church at 10:00. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, New Orleans. An online guestbook is available at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.
