Etheldreda "Ethel" West Gibbs

Etheldreda West Gibbs “Sissy” passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the age of 89. Born February 2, 1927 in the Irish Channel of New Orleans, LA. Beloved wife of the late James D. Gibbs Sr. for 61 years. Loving mother of James “Dennis” Gibbs Jr. (Gwen), Allen “AJ” Gibbs (Shirley), Raymond L. Gibbs (Linda) and Vernon P. Gibbs (Karen). Proud grandmother of Dawn Stafford, Shawn Gibbs, Brent Gibbs, Stacy DeFigarelli, Gretchen Gibbs, Adam Gibbs, Ashton Gibbs, Mitchell Gibbs, Amanda Baxter, Michael Gibbs and nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Loving sister-in-law to Julie West.

Proceeded in death by her father Alvis West, mother Ethel Moss West, siblings Imelda West, Ellen West, John West, Audrey Lotz and Alvis “Abbie” West Jr. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends to cherish her memory.

Ethel was born and raised in the Irish Channel of New Orleans and was a resident of Kenner for 52 years before moving to Ponchatoula with her son Vernon and daughter-in-law Karen. “Sissy” was a devoted catholic, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. She will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery No. 1 on Canal St. in New Orleans.
