Elaine Woodburn Witherspoon, former public school first grade teacher and St. Matthew’s Day School teacher of four year olds, died Monday March 26, 2012 of a lengthy illness. Her love of children guided her to other church pre-schools each time her husband was transferred. She was born in Maryville, MO and received her degree from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College. Survivors include her husband Lawrence T. Witherspoon, her daughters Susan E. Witherspoon, Janet W. Kapusta, son in-law Dr. Mario Kapusta, two grandchildren and sister, Dorothy L. Preston.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 6017 Camphor St., Metairie on Saturday March 31, 2012 at 12:00 pm. Visitation from 10:00 am until time of service. Interment will be in Miriam Cemetery in Maryville, MO. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations in her name to St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church.
