After a long battle with cancer, Fred Hudson Offutt passed away on April 5, 2018 peacefully in the arms of his wife, Gloria Offutt. In 1944, Fred was born to Ann Baliff and Frank Offutt in Matewan, West Virginia.
Fred was a proud veteran, who served in the Navy. Following his exit from the service, Fred married Gloria Offutt in 1969. Gloria was the love of his life and they enjoyed 48 wonderful years of marriage. They had two children, Christina Offutt Rouyer and Kimberly Offutt. Fred also enjoyed a long and successful career with Union Carbide and Dow Chemical.
Fred was full of love for his family and spent his time with them as much as possible. He loved going to swim meets and other events with his children and vacationing with his family. Fred was never as happy, though, as when he was holding hands with his wife. Their love of each other was deep and moving.
In 2015, Fred became a grandfather to Elliot Rouyer. He relished his role as “Paw-Paw” and spent as much time with his grandson as he could. We all loved watching the two play games together and share hugs and laughs.
Fred fought bravely against kidney cancer for nearly 9 years in order to have as much time as he possibly could with his family. He will be remembered for his love for life, his family and his friends. He leaves behind his wife Gloria Offutt; his daughters, Kimberly Offutt and Christina Offutt Rouyer; his son-in-law, Richard Rouyer; and his grandson Elliot Rouyer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Frank Offutt; and his brother, Frank Offutt.
A celebration of his life service was held at Biloxi National Cemetery on April 11th at 10am. Due to restrictions at the cemetery, please do not send flowers. Instead, consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in Fred’s name.
Fred is once again reunited with his family and is at peace. Keep looking down on us, Dad. We miss you!
