

Mr. Frederick Louis Gethers was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday, October 1, 1926 to Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Harriet Johnson Gethers. On Friday, January 15, 2021 at 7:20 a.m. at the New Orleans Veterans Affairs Hospital “Freddy" passed away at the age of 94.
Mr. Gethers loved his home, the city of New Orleans, and its people. Frederick's daughter, Jeanne Marie Gethers, was born to him in February, the month of his enlistment year.
As a young adult, Frederick joined the United States Army and is a World War II Veteran. Shortly thereafter, Freddy's two brothers Carl and Warren joined the ranks of the military and this brought a time of pride for Freddie. Frederick's favorite tour of service overseas was in Japan. Mr. Gethers served his time and was honorably retired from the military. After his retirement from the military, Frederick married his neighborhood friend and sweetheart, Mrs. Jerry Dean Gethers and shortly thereafter, they were blessed with the birth of Lisa Denise Gethers. He served for nearly 26 years as a longshoreman on the docks and banks of the rivers of New Orleans. He retired honorably from that as well. Mr. Gethers was a sportsman who found pleasure in fishing and boating. He also loved to sing and will be remembered for his beautiful voice.
Mr. Gethers is survived and cherished by his daughters, Mrs. Lisa Denise Gethers Armour (Min. David Armour) and Mrs. Jeanne Marie Gethers Ehlers (Dr. William A. Ehlers), 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his beloved brother, Mr. Ernest Gethers (Mrs. Maude Gethers), sisters, Evelyn and Catherine Gethers, niece, Mrs. Maude Rose Gethers- George, nephews, Mr. Ernest Gethers (Mrs. Tina Gethers), Mr. Carl Gethers (Mrs. Ruby Gethers), and Mr. Kenny David Gethers, and multiple great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mr. Gethers is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Jerry Dean Gethers, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gethers, brothers, Mr. Wilbert Brown Gethers and Mr. Warren Gethers, and sisters, Mrs. Earnestine Gethers Faison and Ms. Laura Square. He is also preceded in death by Ayla Rae Irving Gethers Boyle, Joshua George, and Develle Gethers.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Gethers on Monday, February 15, 2021 at 11 a.m.
