

Gilbert George Sr. was born November 22, 1943 in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas USVI to the late Wilbert and Mariel George. He was the second of their seven children.
He moved to Bronx, New York with family as a young child. Gilbert graduated from Food and Maritime Trades High School. He worked with the Military Sealift Command as a Fireman Water Tender in the boiler room for over 15 years. After leaving the Military Sealift Command, he settled in Louisiana where he met and married his wife Antoinette Adams. Gilbert worked at the Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades Local 1244 for 24 years before retiring. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching westerns, cooking for family and keeping his yard landscaped. He was known to be very blunt and didn’t mince words. He would tell you what you needed to hear, not what you wanted to hear.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Antoinette George, daughter, Andrea Garcia, son, Gilbert George Jr., daughter-in-law, Marquita, grandchildren, Tatum and Tyree George, siblings, Jessica Smith, and Warren and Tyrone George, mother-in-law, Daisy Adams, sister-in-laws, Vevlyn, Salina, and Shirley Adams, and Donna and Gwendolena George, brother-in-laws, Arnold and Charles Adams and Thomas Thompson along with a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 9 AM – 9:30 AM with services to begin at 9:30 AM. There will be a reception immediately following services until 12 PM.
