Gloria Humphreys Sartin was born July 14, 1935 in Krotz Springs, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Robert Lee and Lottie (Stermer) Humphreys, and was the second of three children alongside older brother, Bobby Lee, and younger sister, Mary Anne.
Gloria enjoyed genealogy alongside her sister Mary Anne. They discovered that they are so far able to trace the Humphreys lineage back into the late 1500s. Gloria and Mary Anne are registered Descendants of the Jersey Settlers, (eligible for) Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the Confederacy.
At seventeen, Gloria graduated from Melville High School in 1953 with the class motto: “Look up to God and Consider the End.” Her life was a testament of embracing a close relationship with God and relying on God’s will.
At nineteen, on January 1, 1955 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana she entered into fifty-three loving years of marriage with F. L. Sartin, son of Felix Lee and Roxie Claridy Sartin. For forty years, Gloria and F. L. Sartin would journey together living to follow the mission of God. At thirty-one, on Easter Sunday of 1967, her husband Rev. F.L. Sartin was elected pastor of the First Pentecostal Church of Gretna, Louisiana on Claire Avenue.
At twenty-one, on January 6, 1957 they would have their one and only beloved son Michael Keith Sartin who would later grow to become an ordained minister with the United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI) and Bishop at First Pentecostal Church-Westbank.
Gloria’s spiritual journey has its beginnings in the Baptist tradition of faith. At twelve, she would transition to Pentecostalism wherein she received the Gift of the Holy Ghost and was soon baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. She deeply valued having a prayer life. She believed in having a daily walk with God and would organize intercessory pray meetings to pray for the surrounding communities that darkness would not overcome the efforts of the church. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers. . .” (Eph. 6:12).
At eighty-one, after a full life lived for the Lord, Gloria struggled with illness and died on Monday, April 10, 2017 while in her home at 5252 Pitre Drive, Marrero, Louisiana. She was surrounded by family and friends.
Gloria is survived by her sister Mary Anne Humphreys, son Michael Sartin and wife Sandra, grandchildren Kelly Sartin Lopez and husband Terry, Kasey Sartin, Keith Sartin and wife Nicole, great-grandchildren Ashlynn, Alec, Austen, Aiden, Adaleigh, and Zariana, sister-in-law Joyce, nephew Warren Humphreys and niece Shelley Humphreys.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 beginning at 11:00AM at First Pentecostal Church-Westbank, 3200 Ames Blvd., Marrero, LA 70072. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am.
