

Harold Beresford White, Jr. passed away on Monday, June 13, 2011 at the age of 92. Born in Wilmington, DE on August 23, 1918, he was a longtime resident of Lakeview in New Orleans before moving to Gulfport, MS five years ago. He was a 1936 graduate of Jesuit High School and a member of the band. During WWII, he was active in the Signal Corps within the US Army and later worked on air and in sales for WNOE radio. In 1948, he started HB White and Son Contracting which built over 350 homes. He cofounded Masonry Products and Clear Lite Window Co. of New Orleans as well as White and Son Building Supply in Gulfport, MS. He served on the Board of Directors for Mutual Savings and Loan for 28 years in addition to serving as their building inspector. His passion was dogs and antique cars.
Beloved husband of the late Billie Cooper White. Father of Harold B. White, III, Bruce White, Deanne Switzer and Philip White. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
The family would like to offer their appreciation to the staffs of St. Joseph Hospice and PDN, Inc. of Gulfport, MS for the compassionate care extended to Mr. White.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 2605 River Road, New Orleans, LA 70121 are preferred.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday morning, June 17, 2011 at 11:30 am at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
