

JoAnn Dominique Sclafani, age 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 4, 1937, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Harold and Grace Dominique. A longtime resident of the New Orleans area, "Mimi" to her family, married the love of her life, George J. Sclafani, Jr. who preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by her sons, Scott Sclafani (Diane), Mark Sclafani (Bethany) and daughter, Stacey Brodnax (Donny) and grandchildren, Alexis and Ben Brodnax, and Sydney and Stephen Sclafani.
A graduate of The Academy of Holy Angels, JoAnn obtained her bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University in 1958. An accomplished and exceptional cook, JoAnn specialized in all types of Italian and Creole cooking which she loved to prepare for many family gatherings. Annual Christmas Eve parties held at her house were always well-attended and enjoyed by all. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was a member of the NAIM Group and the Grandparents' Club at St. Clement of Rome Church. A longtime parishioner of St. Philip Neri Church in Metairie, JoAnn had a great love for her Catholic faith which she shared as being a Eucharistic Minister for many years.
The family would like to thank the caregivers who helped JoAnn in her later years, especially Diane Winston who became a close family friend over the years. Also, a special thank you to Nettie Lee and the staff at Peristyle Residences for their care, patience and understanding.
Please join the family to celebrate JoAnn's life as part of a Funeral Mass which will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 12:30 pm at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
