

John Thomas Walters III, 76, passed away on October 26th, 2022 at Ochsner Hospital in Kenner. He was born on September 21, 1946 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late John T. Walters II and Dorothy Rhoden. His grandparents were Violet Robinson Walters and John T. Walters Sr. He was brought up in the Irish Channel and would later reside in Kenner, Louisiana.
John attended St. Alphonsus and graduated from Redemptorist High School. John was a Babe Ruth All Star pitcher and 3rd baseman where he would receive many awards and recognition in the local newspapers from the age of 13. He also played in the American Legion League. He excelled at many other sports including basketball, tennis, bowling, fishing, and football. He attended Nicholls State University on a baseball scholarship.
John was a dedicated employee for 44 years with the U.S. Postal Service, where he would again receive many commendations for going "above and beyond" his job expectations. John was a highly motivated coach who would lead his son's Little League team to All Stars. He enjoyed coaching his daughters in tennis as well. John loved The Yankees, The Saints, and LSU and enjoyed being a member of The TAK Men's Club and the Irish Channel Marching Club for a while, where he was able to stay in touch with many of the friends he met in high school. He also enjoyed TV dramas and going to the movies.
John stayed married for 53 years to his high school sweetheart, Barbara Moreau. He had 4 children and 4 grandchildren. He was a great and loyal husband, father, grandfather, and provider to all his family members and for that he will be truly missed.
John is survived by his loving spouse, Barbara (Moreau), his son Scott Walters, his twin daughters, Kristen (Edward) Velez, Sherri (Brian) Langevin, and Tiffany Walters. He is survived by his sister, Sandra (Michael) Haggerty, his four loving grandchildren Connor and Sarah Langevin, David Wischan, and Vincent Velez.
