Jo Ann was a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School. A resident of Metairie for 50 years, Jo Ann was an administrator at the Metairie YMCA for 20 + years where she touched the lives of many. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Jo Ann is survived by her loving husband of nearly 63 years, Bruce Edward Hirstius, daughters Lauren Hirstius and Leslie Hirstius Dunn (Joseph); grandchildren Brandi Pfalzgraf Augustine (Jacob), Hayden Dunn and Amelia Dunn; and great-grandchildren Corey Augustine and Seth Augustine. She was greeted in Heaven by her son Gary Bruce Hirstius and her parents, Lawrence and Mary Di Marco.
Jo Ann, as she was known by so many friends and family, had a passion for the art of dance, and attended Josie Corbera School of Dance when she was a young girl. As she grew, so did her love and passion for serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Jo Ann attended St. Ann Catholic Church in Metairie and served God as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of Magnificat, A Ministry for Catholic Women. She touched everyone she met with the love of the Holy Spirit.
Family and friends will remember Jo Ann by her radiant smile, her warm and loving glow, her generosity and caring towards all around her, and her love for God the Almighty. The lessons of life and love that were taught so graciously by Josephine Ann Di Marco Hirstius will live forever through our memory of her.
