Louis V. Hufft, Jr. passed away at his home in River Ridge, Louisiana on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at the age of 70. Affectionately known to his family as Poppy, he was sentimental and corny in all the right ways. He truly enjoyed life - golfing, reading and traveling, hunting and fishing, eating all types of red meat, and the occasional scotch or red wine; but most of all, he enjoyed being with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. Poppy was known for his aversion to wearing socks or a belt, his endearing clumsiness, and doling out heartfelt compliments. He treated everyone he welcomed into his home as family. He was as genuine as they come – a true New Orleanian. He will be missed greatly. Born February 11, 1945, in New Orleans, he was the son of the late Louis V. Hufft, Sr. and Mary Margaret Aiken. Poppy was a graduate of Ridgewood Preparatory School and Louisiana State University. At LSU, he made the best decision of his life when he proposed to his lifelong wife, Jane Rawls. They made their home in New Orleans, where he continued the family real estate and property management business previously headed first by his grandfather, and then by his father. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Poppy is survived by his wife Jane Rawls Hufft, originally from Poplarville, MS; sons Chris and his wife Kelly of Baton Rouge, LA, and Clay and his wife Corinne of Dallas, TX; and 4 grandchildren, Gracie, Eliza, Rawls and Eleanor. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his name to Children’s Hospital, 200 Henry Clay Ave., New Orleans, LA 70118, www.chnola.org. The online guestbook is available at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.
