Margaret Stanley Lemarie (Peggy) Jordan

1 enero, 1926 – 14 septiembre, 2025
Obituario de Margaret Stanley Lemarie (Peggy) Jordan
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home

Margaret Stanley Lemarie (“Peggy”) Jordan, aged 99, passed away peacefully in New Orleans on September 14, 2025. She was born in New Orleans on January 1, 1926, the daughter of the late Hilda Baccich Lemarie and Stanley Munford Lemarie. Peggy graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart in 1942 and from Newcomb College in 1946, where, through her determination and vision, she helped create the Art History degree program and became one of its very first graduates. In that same year, she married Thomas Francis Jordan, and together they raised seven children: Timothy McShane Jordan (deceased), Meg Jordan Bradley, Ann Jordan Wilde, Jonathan Edward Jordan (deceased), Evelyn Jordan, Mary Jennifer Jordan (deceased), and Joshua Jordan.

She was the beloved grandmother of ten (Sarah Davis, William Bradley, Johanna Wilde, Zoe Vermeulen, Jackson Wilde, Joshua Jordan, Caitlin Jordan, Ian Jordan, Michael Jordan, and Donovan Jordan) and the great-grandmother of ten (Connor Davis, Remington Davis, Helena Davis, Esme Vermeulen, Eloise Vermeulen, Bennett Jordan, Jace Jordan, Hudson Jordan, Charlotte Bradley, and Frederick Bradley).

After the birth of her first grandchild, Sarah, she was affectionately given the name “Poogie.” From then on, though the world knew her as Peggy, to her family she was always Poogie—the heart of the family, deeply loved and admired. Poogie was known by those closest to her as an elegant and sophisticated woman, remembered for her grace, dignity, kindness, and impeccable sense of style. Her lifelong love of art led her to help establish the Docent Program at the New Orleans Museum of Art. She later built a rich and abundant career, first as a real estate agent and then as a successful dealer of art and antiques on Royal Street, where she became known for her expertise in jade and early American painting and furniture. She herself collected beautiful antiques and created a stylish home in her beloved apartment on St. Charles Avenue. Peggy, or “Poogie,” cherished the French heritage of New Orleans and continued her study of the French language throughout her life. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her refined eye for beauty, and her gift for making life elegant and full of meaning. A private inurnment ceremony will be held at Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans.
