Marie Sturcken

Marie Combel Sturcken passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, in Metairie, LA, at the age of 85. She was the devoted wife of the late William “Rolland” Sturcken of 63 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Combel and Emma Louise Buisson Combel and her four siblings, Lucille Arroyo, Camille Giovingo, Sidney Combel, & Marguerite Heurtin. Mother of Sheila Newton (Ray), Lynne S. Claverie (Danny) and Robert W. Sturcken (Angie). Grandmother of Michael R. Newton, Steven D. Claverie (Brittany), Christina N. Taix (Ray), Vickie C. LeNormand (Robert), Cherie D. Claverie, Jonathan Sturcken. Great-grandmother of David Newton, Christopher Newton, Ray Michael Taix, Noah LeNormand and Jacob Taix. She was blessed with many loving nieces and nephews.

Marie was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 6640 in Metairie for many years.

Born in Covington and lived most of her life in New Orleans. Marie was also a resident of Slidell for 20 years, a resident of Ville Ste. Marie Independent Living for 5 years, and more recently at Serenity House in Metairie for the last year. A heart filled thanks to Diane Bourgeois, all of her loving and nurturing staff, and Serenity Hospice for being there on her last day of her journey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, masses at St. Edward the Confessor Church are gratefully appreciated.
