Mary was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she graduated Istrouma High School and then Baton Rouge Beauty College. She worked for many years as a hair stylist both for others and in her own shop. Mary was one of a kind. Many things about her will be remembered including her smile, wit, love of animals, love for long walks, and her thoughtfulness. One of the most memorable things about Mary was her baking. She enjoyed baking cakes of all kinds, and then loved to visit over a cup of coffee while eating those cakes. She also enjoyed sewing, and later in life made hundreds of her “ditty bags” by hand as well as hand sewing remembrance ribbons for all sorts of causes. Mary also enjoyed sending and receiving cards for any and all occasions.
While Mary’s time on this earth is done, she is no doubt enjoying her time with her friends and family who have gone before – maybe even enjoying a cup of coffee, her favorite pastime, and “loving up” on her cats, her favorite animal.
Mary is survived by her only child, Suzanne Galland Dumez and husband, Steve; her two grandchildren, Andre’ Dumez and Corinne Dumez; and her siblings; Martha Watson (Michael Stewart), Irene Watson (Leon Tranchina) Pat Watson, and sister-in-law, Sylvia Watson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie B. Watson and Bettie Belle Muse Watson, and her brother Jim Watson.
A Memorial Service will be held to honor the memory of Mary Watson Galland at Pine Ridge Methodist Church, 3893 LA-440, Kentwood, Louisiana 70444 on Friday, November 19th, 2021. Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am with a service beginning at 11:00 am. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.LeitzEaganFuneralHome.com for the family.
