

Patricia Helwig Virgadamo, 86, a longtime resident of Metairie, passed away to new life on Monday, January 23, 2017 in Jefferson, Louisiana after an 8 month battle with multiple myeloma. She was a loving, kind, and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, “Nan Nan”, cousin, aunt, and friend. Pat is survived by her children who loved her dearly: Emile P. Virgadamo [Janice], Barbara V. Beben [Michael], and Rodney A. Virgadamo; her grandchildren: Dominic A. Beben [Wendy], Elizabeth B. Politz [Brandon], Jeffrey M. Beben [Chelsea], Jessica L. Virgadamo, and Emily L. Virgadamo; her nephews: Merlin [Debbie], Gregory [Joy], and David [Mavis] Schenck, along with Frederick, III [Janet], and Stephen [Diane] Helwig; and her two great grandchildren: Abigail M. and Elijah D. Beben. She is preceded in death by her sons Gerard “Jerry” M. Virgadamo and infant Francis Xavier Virgadamo; her husband Carmelo “Emile” Virgadamo; her siblings Frederick C. Helwig, Jr. [survived by Melva] and Gloria H. Schenck [Merlin]; her parents Elizabeth Streeder Helwig and Frederick C. Helwig, Sr. She was born in New Orleans on March 17, 1930 and spent her formative years in New Orleans. She graduated from St. Henry Catholic School and St. Stephen High School. Pat enjoyed family gatherings, children, meals with her friends, watching football, playing cards, and frequenting casinos. She was known for her specialty dishes of lasagna, macaroni and cheese, stuffed merlitons, and many more. She will be missed by all. The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the love and support from the Bonura family and Carolyn Picou throughout her life, and from Canon Hospice during her final days of life. Masses are preferred in lieu of flowers. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Louis King of France Church, 1609 Carrollton Ave., Metairie, on Saturday, January 28th. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation from 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 P.M. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery following the Mass.
